Define a highlight action
When you create a dashboard, you give yourself quick access to overviews of your data. You'll probably care most about a subset of that data at any one time. So Tableau lets you highlight data according to rules you define. In this movie, I will show you how to create an action that lets you apply a highlight quickly. My sample file is 12_06_highlight, and you can find it in the Chapter_12 folder of the Exercise Files collection. In this workbook, I have created a simple dashboard that shows sales by employee title and then count by customer type for each of those employee types. And then, the split between retail and wholesale sales, based again on employee title. To create a highlight rule that will be based on employee title I can go to the dashboard menu. And then click actions. This displays the actions dialog box. I want to show the action for the entire workbook, although I could also make it just for the sheet where the dashboard is.
