Create column and stacked column charts
One of the most common ways to summarize categories of data is by using a bar chart. A bar chart uses horizontal or vertical bars to show the magnitude of values across a range of categories. Vertical bar charts are often called column charts, and in this movie I will show you how to create both the horizontal and the vertical variety. My sample file is 08_01_Bar, and you can find it in the Chapter_08 folder of the Exercise Files collection. In this workbook I have a single blank worksheet, so I will start by building a visualization. So I'll go over to the sidebar and I'll drag product category to the rose area that appears on the rose shelf, and I will summarize the order total. So I'll drag the order total measure to the data area and there are my values. And just looking at the text table, it's easy to see that solar panels easily outsell everything else. Nothing else is above 1 million, whereas solar panels is almost 3 million. If I want to highlight that difference visually…
