Add and remove map layers
After you create a map in Tableau, you can change the background layers that appear to affect your map's appearance and also any elements such as state names or data layers that appear. I'll demonstrate how to make these changes using the sample file named 11_02_Layers, which you can find in the Chapter_11 folder of the Exercise Files collection. In this workbook, I have a worksheet that maps customer data. And I have customer location based on zip code. If I want to change the background layers applied to the map, then I can go to the map menu and then click Background Layers. Doing so displays the background layers panel over in the sidebar, and here I can change the style. For example, I currently have it on light. If I click that control and click normal, then the water features, for example the Great Lakes here, have all turned a little bit darker. So to me they stand out a bit more.
