Create a calculated field

- [Instructor] When you import a dataset into Tableau, you will often get raw data such as sales amounts and the dates of transactions. If you want to combine your field's values in ways not included in the original dataset, you can create a calculated field that draws on the values you do have. I'll demonstrate how to create and work with a calculated field in this movie. My sample file is the Calculated Tableau workbook. You can find that in the Chapter01 folder of the exercise files collection. To take a quick survey of the worksheet that's currently displayed in the workbook, see that I have order details for a number of products and also for hotel property information. In this case, I'm not using any of the hotel property info, but it is there if you want to play around. And my visualization is organized by product category.
