The triple bottom line
- The term Triple Bottom Line was coined many years ago, and I still like it because it's easily understandable for most business people, even if they're hearing it for the first time. What is the Triple Bottom Line? Simply put, the concept implies that companies should be managed using traditional economic indicators, but also by considering social and environmental factors that are material to the business. That means anything that can influence the value of a company and its individual share price. We now know and can show that social and environmental factors influence corporate revenue and brand value, and have been for many years. Just think of one of your favorite brands and how a social or environmental issue has impacted them. Whether they've been tied to sweatshops, forever-chemicals, or climate change, no company is immune.
