- I love pictures because they can often help explain things that are very complex. Such is the case with supply chain maps. Let's build one. Let's map a supply chain. First let's draw out our stakeholders and how they're linked. Just being able to see all the people involved from suppliers to customers and everyone in between. We can see how everyone's connected and how they might impact each other. We can even imagine the impact of the facilities and their locations. Let's add in the flow of materials downstream toward the customer, and even the flow of returns and packaging upstream. Now, imagine the humans that work in the supply chain and the machines they utilize on the job. People and companies expect to get paid, so let's map the flow of money. We can also begin to imagine inventory levels, lead times, defects, damage and theft rates. Now let's consider which of these datasets are actually being tracked.…
