- When I first moved to Los Angeles, I made it a point to really get involved in nonprofit and charity work in my area so that I can become entrenched in the community. There's a nonprofit called The Covenant House which has an event called the Sleep Out that they've been running for the past 10 years. Now, the Sleep Out is an event where a bunch of volunteers get together, and over a six-week period of time, we raise money and awareness for the nearly 6,000 homeless teenagers in Los Angeles. Now, I've done this event for about three years in a row. And after about a quarter of a million dollars later, what I've learned is that the event is transformational, not just for those that we help, but for the volunteers who are experiencing sleeping outside not because they want to simulate homelessness, but in solidarity and to raise money and awareness for what other people go through, which enhances our empathy and creates…
