- [Instructor] In this movie, we will learn why it's important to use HTTPS with every website. HTTPS has existed since the beginning of the web, but its usage has evolved over time. Initially, it was used primarily for securing e-commerce pages. It provided a way to securely send credit card information and to make other financial transactions. Over time, many websites added password-protected areas that required a user to log in. It became common to use HTTPS to securely transmit the user's login information, as well as the content of those protected pages. Eventually, the consensus became that it was better to just use HTTPS as the default for all pages. It provides data privacy and integrity all the time. It also helps to prevent many common scams and other types of malicious activity on the internet. Back in January of 2014, only 26% of page loads were using HTTPS.
