Reducing the risks of social media on youth mental health
(upbeat music) - [Narrator] "There is growing evidence that social media use is associated with harm to young people's mental health," says US Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy, in a recent health advisory. According to this advisory, adolescents spending more than three hours per day on social media double their risk of having poor mental health outcomes like anxiety and depression. That's really concerning. We've known for a while that social media has downsides, but these negative impacts need to be prioritized in order to protect young people during their critical stages of development. The health advisory from the US Surgeon General provides numerous recommendations on addressing this pressing matter, especially what policymakers, tech companies, parents, caregivers, children, and researchers can do to take action. But how can we as marketers positively take part and diminish these risks for young people?…
