All the social networks are competing against one another to gain this attention as the more time we spend as consumers on a given platform, the more revenue they stand to make. In the pursuit of growing their businesses, many major social platforms have participated in anti-competitive behaviors in an attempt to dominate the industry. Slowly but surely, government regulators worldwide are identifying the tech companies engaging in anti-competitive mergers and business practices and passing legislation to hopefully correct these missteps. For example, the UK government's antitrust authority has ruled that Facebook's parent company, Meta, must sell Giphy, the GIF database and search engine it acquired in 2020.
