Storage layer

Now, we mentioned earlier when you load and store data in Snowflake, that data resides on the underlying cloud's storage platform. Once the data is inside Snowflake though, keep in mind that you'll need to use Snowflake credits to work with the data because you can't access that data outside of Snowflake. So once it's in Snowflake, you need to use Snowflake to do anything with it, unless you unload the data, which we'll cover later in this course. Now, the price does vary across different geographical regions and storage classes, but for example, AWS charges around 26 US dollars per terabyte per month to store data. And Snowflake simply passes on those costs to the user or the customer. And that storage cost that you charge is calculated based upon an average terabyte figure for the previous billing month. Again, one thing important there to recognize for the certification.
