- What was the first meal you ever learned to make by yourself? For me, it was spaghetti and meatballs. I know, I know, pretty easy. Well, the first time I made it, I still struggled because it was new to me, but in the end I got it done and was proud to have made my first meal. Your skills-based hiring pilot is like creating a new meal for the first time. There will likely be challenges and it may not go perfectly. To account for this, I recommend that you start with a manageable dish like I did. Pick one or two middle-skills roles with high hiring demand at your company to focus on for your pilot. If possible, explore labor market data to get a sense of what kind of talent currently fills similar roles. For example, if 50 to 75% of people in the role don't have a degree, this tells you that the role may have recently become degree-inflated and might be a good place to start.
