- Hi, I'm George Maestri, and today I'm going to take a look at 3D printing in SketchUp. Now, SketchUp is a 3D program and it will allow you to export objects for 3D printing, either with your own 3D printer or through a service. So we're going to take a look at how to import and export STL files, which is the standard format for 3D printing, and we're also going to take a look at the materialise plugin, which allows you to export to a 3D printing service that has partnered with SketchUp. So, the first thing I want to do is let's talk a little bit about STL. STL is the format that most 3D printers will use, and SketchUp has happily provided you with an STL extension. Now, the SketchUp STL extension can be found in the Extensions Warehouse, so all you have to do is search for SketchUp STL and that's the SketchUp approved plugin for STL import and import, and then all you have to do is download and install it.
