- A Six Sigma Yellow Belt is an individual who has a foundational, yet fundamental understanding of Six Sigma principles and tools. They play a key role in supporting process improvement projects by collecting data, identifying issues, and contributing to quality management initiatives. Yellow Belts participate as project team members while reviewing process improvements that support projects. In addition to the Yellow Belt, each project needs organizational support. Lean Six Sigma executives and champions set the direction for selecting and deploying projects and priorities. They ensure at a high level, that projects succeed, add value, and fit within the organizational plan. Champions will play a large role for the Yellow Belt, since they transform the company's vision, mission, goals, and metrics to create an organizational deployment plan, along with maturity. They identify projects, define stakeholders, and identify resources and remove roadblocks. Executives are just as important. They will provide overall alignment by establishing the strategic focus of the Six Sigma program within the context of the organization's culture and vision. Your Six Sigma green belt will support a Six Sigma black belt by analyzing and solving quality problems and is involved in quality improvement projects. The black belt will understand the Six Sigma philosophies and principles in depth, including the supporting systems and tools. The black belts will demonstrate team leadership and understand all aspects of the DMAIC model in accordance with Six Sigma principles. Finally, your master black belt will help train and coach black belts, green belts, and yellow belts. They'll be more strategic in defining and developing metrics and ensure the plans are intact.
