- Alright, so we have talked about how, for singers, it's not just about the sound that you produce. That's only part of your instrument. The other absolutely essential part of your instrument is your ears. You cannot really be successful as a vocalist producing sound unless you are hearing the sound and responding to what is being expressed according to what you hear. So, it's essential as singers that we develop our listening abilities and our understanding of music and sound and tone based on what we hear. So that we can respond with our instrument accordingly so that we can respond vocally to what our ears are hearing. This will come into play when you are talking about pitch, when you're trying to sing in tune, and especially when you're trying to work with a track or an instrument and singing in tune with other instruments that don't have the flexibility that you have as a singer.
