How to build executive presence with physical signals
- Executive presence is more than just mental aspects. It also involves physical aspects, or elements of the body, as you see here in the integrated aura model. In other words, the physical signals that you send matter. In fact, there are a specific set of signals that correlate with executive presence. Let's start with important considerations for when you're remote. If remote, it's critical to have a professional backdrop with good lighting and quality sound. There are lots of cheap, effective lighting kits out there. For example, in the room I'm recording in right now, there are a bank of three tall stage or photography lights in an arc in front of me, and one light behind me for backlighting, which really adds to the professional tone. I'm wearing a high-quality but inexpensive lavalier mic, not my laptop mic.
