- I'm here in Fairbanks, Alaska to photograph an ice sculpting competition. I wanted to shoot a course about event photography. It's probably one of the most common types of photo stories people do, whether it's photographing their kids football games, Girl Scouting events, or if you're a photojournalist working for a newspaper, oftentimes some of the most common assignments is just photographing an event. And so I wanted to find something interesting, and I was already up here working on another job in Alaska. And so I did a little bit of research online just for different events that were going on. Working Google and trying to find something I came across this competition in Fairbanks. I've never photographed or even attended an ice sculpting competition before. I've never even seen anybody sculpt ice before. So, this was kind of an exciting opportunity for me to go flex my muscles as a photographer and try something new.
