Turn the vision into a road map
- Once the product vision is established, it's time to figure out how the product will be delivered. When looking at a vision, it can be overwhelming to imagine all that work and how to get it done. Instead of looking at the whole thing all at once, in Scrum, we use specific tools to start breaking the work down into more manageable sizes and sequencing your effort. One key tool is the roadmap. Your PO will need to schedule a product roadmapping session. For this meeting, you'll need the product owner, Scrum Master, and all the team members. It's ideal if you can also include subject-matter experts and key stakeholders. These folks will help ensure you're not missing any critical elements. Finally, you can also include your executive sponsor so they understand all the perspectives invested in the product. I generally plan at least four hours for this meeting.
