Salesforce editions and releases
- [Instructor] Salesforce offers different sales cloud editions or types of instances for organizations, usually based on the size of the organization and flexibility of the instance needed. There are five different types, Essentials, Professional, Enterprise, Unlimited, and Developer Edition. Essentials is typically designed for small businesses while Salesforce Professional is designed for businesses requiring full-featured CRM functionalities and where most companies start. Larger organizations may use Enterprise, Unlimited, or Developer Edition. The Enterprise Edition, mostly where organizations start, is used for larger, more complex businesses, while the Unlimited Edition extends the platform as well as access to Premier support, increased storage limits, and more. The Developer Edition extends Salesforce's functionality as well as extends integrations. 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations with 10 or fewer team members can apply for 10 free sales and service Cloud Enterprise Edition subscriptions through the Power of Us program. If this applies to your organization, you can apply for a grant by visiting the Power of Us website. Otherwise, pricing may vary. Again, please consult with a Salesforce representative for further information about pricing, the limitations based on the edition, and if you ever wanted to upgrade your current Salesforce edition. Knowing your current Salesforce edition is helpful when troubleshooting any issues you may have as an administrator. To find out which Salesforce edition you have, click on the top right and select setup when you first log in and then search for company information in the left search bar. You'll find the information in the organization edition field on the page. As a Salesforce admin and user, it's important to know the release cycle and dates so that your organization is prepared for when new features and functionalities are released and you'll be prepared for the implementation changes. Releases happen three times a year and updates may come in as early as four to six weeks before release goes into production, and you can find all that information in the Salesforce's help page. You can find out further information if your instance is ready at least a year in advance by logging in and reviewing the Salesforce services maintenances on the Salesforce trust page. You can also go to your current instance in setup, then search for release updates in the left search bar. In preparation for releases, you can also check out salesforce.com/releases to learn more about the upcoming releases and review the release notes.
