Share your new resume strategically

- When you get your resume done, give yourself a giant high five and then start thinking about how you're going to get that baby out in the wild. Of course, you can use it to apply for positions that you find posted online, but don't stop there. If that's your only job search method, you could be in for a long haul. I mean, have you seen how many candidates apply for the jobs you see posted on LinkedIn? Competition is typically stiff. So here are some additional ways you can share your resume. First, upload it to one or more job boards. You might focus on the biggies, like Indeed, Glassdoor, or The Muse, or do some sleuthing and find a few job boards that focus more narrowly around your area of expertise. Next, create a list of companies that you're super interested in working for, and then at least once a week, take a look at their careers pages to see if any interesting opportunities have popped up. I would also consider sending a speculative application to your dream companies. Send your resume and a thoughtful cover letter to one or more recruiters at companies that you're really excited about. If your skills and experience seem interesting, you might score a conversation even if there's not an obvious opening right now. If you have any kind of online portfolio or personal webpage, add your new resume there, of course. And if you know anyone at a company that you're applying to work at, ask them if they'd be willing to share your resume with a recruiter or the hiring manager. And last, I highly recommend doing a little bit of research and then introducing yourself to a few specialized recruiters who work specifically within your industry. Getting on their radar and getting your resume into their hands may not score you an immediate interview, but if something opens up that fits your profile, you can bet that they'll be in touch.
