- One of my executive clients would become terribly nervous giving reports, doing analyst meetings. Together, we work to create effective strategies to reduce her stress and optimize her presentation. With practice, she learned how to both anticipate and manage her speaking apprehension. All of our work was directed towards her learning, how to coach herself. Here are the key components of self coaching that we used. Calibrate your energy. Coaches have long believed that revving their athletes up with a pregame pep talk will inspire them to perform their best. But research shows that many athletes perform best when they are extremely relaxed while others fall in between the extremes of high and low anxiety.
