- A lot of people ask me how I uncovered the five practices of highly resilient people. Well, they emerged after a decade and a half of personally interviewing hundreds of people about how they faced their greatest challenges, along with collecting thousands of additional pieces of information from documentaries, interviews, and biographies. So what are the five practices of highly resilient people? Based on my original empirical research, they are: vulnerability, productive perseverance, connection, grati-osity, and possibility. Let's take a closer look at each one. The first practice, vulnerability, is the process of, to the greatest extent possible, allowing our inside self, our thoughts, feelings, and experiences, to match the outside self we share with the world. This is vulnerability, and it's also the foundation of authenticity and empathy.
