- What I found on the circuitous journey of my career is that once I began to understand what I was best at and what I loved doing most, self-generated projects were the best way to help augment my reputation and reinvent what people expected from me. To quote the great designer and artist Stefan Sagmeister, "There is never a better time to make the things you've always dreamed of making." Self-generated projects are the best way to produce an entirely new body of work. There are lots of reasons for this. First, you can make whatever you want without any client restrictions. It's the most efficient way to begin to differentiate yourself from others. It can reframe your competitive set and allow yourself to be seen in completely different perspectives.
