What you should know
- [Instructor] Before we get going, I want to go over a few things that you should know. This course is a beginner's course for Redshift and Cinema 4D, but it does assume that you have a few of the following prerequisites: a working knowledge of Cinema 4D overall, and lighting, texturing, and camera operation experience in 3D. Now the Redshift release schedule is a very fast one, and the software has been known to change throughout a short timeframe. It's always a good idea to check out the release notes on the website for the current hardware and driver requirements as well as changes to the inner workings of the engine. While recording this course, I'm currently using Cinema 4D S26.014 along with Redshift version 3.5.1. As of Cinema 4D version S26, Redshift is now built in as a render option. However, the built-in version is limited to the computer's CPU, much like the old Standard and Physical render engines. To get the full power of Redshift, you will need to purchase a license at maxon.net. When learning Redshift, it's also helpful to have experience with real-world lighting and camera concepts as well as an eye for detail in real-world materials. If you get into a situation where you aren't totally sure how to work with a particular Redshift element, I suggest checking out the Redshift documentation on the maxon.net website or diving into the Redshift online forums. There is a ton of helpful information hidden within these forums. And you can just use the search function to pull something up. Finally, it's important to understand that this course will give you the basic knowledge about how to use Redshift, but it's up to you to take these principles and practices and use them in production scenarios. Redshift is incredibly powerful in your workflow, but each and every scene is different and will require a different approach to getting it to look right. Unfortunately, there isn't a universal shiny and awesome button yet. So just make sure that you spend the time to learn the balance between speed and perfection with your renders.
