- First day no shows and ghosting is on the rise. And once again, when this happens, the recruiter may be blamed for not getting the candidate across the finish line. A candidate is usually excited about the prospect of a new job. They are riding the high of being offered a job, and they have given their two weeks notice to their former employer. They may be using time in between their old job and the new job to go on vacation, or they might be beginning to worry. Similar to the negotiation stage, this is an area where things can still break down. Something may come up on the background check, which may make the employer have to rescind an offer. That candidate might still have another offer hanging out there that they haven't rejected us yet. Their former employer may have made a counteroffer. And while these aren't within your control, you may get an inkling about potential upcoming red flags when you ask the right questions and dig a little deeper in the beginning. Nevertheless…
