Capability analysis between and within subgroups
- [Instructor] When process performance data is sampled in rational subgroups, for example, randomly selected five parts or five transactions every hour from an ongoing process, then you can conduct a process capability analysis that's able to distinguish within subgroup variation from between subgroup variation. Within subgroup variation is common cause variation, while between subgroup variation is special cause variation. Now, let's work through an example using Minitab. In Minitab, go to File, Open, Worksheet, 03_02_Process_Capability_Subgroups in the exercise files which you downloaded earlier. Here you have two columns, the first column showing length, and the second showing sample numbers. Go to Stat, Quality Tools, Capability Analysis, Between/Within. In a single column. Select Length. Sample sizes are defined in the column Sample. And let's input the spec limits. Let's say the lower spec limit is 15,…
