- Every change brings costs, risks, and impacts. Change evaluation replaces guesswork with a structured assessment. Use it before a change to identify adjustments you can make to minimize costs and risks and maximize positive impacts. Use it after a change to assess planned versus actual costs, risks and impacts to improve your planning estimating accuracy. Why do change evaluation? Because making changes without evaluating their impact is like flying blind. Change evaluation done prior to a change helps ensure that change will deliver on its intended benefits, won't introduce new risks, and will align with business goals. Without a change evaluation, you risk unintended disruptions, wasted resources, or even failure. After a change, change evaluations helps you measure your plan versus actual success, and to apply lessons learned to future similar changes.
