Why "scoring" your script matters
- Let's talk about the advantages and challenges of scripted and unscripted speaking. Now, in unscripted speaking, when you're thinking on your feet or speaking off the cuff, both idioms that mean speaking in the moment, your brain is engaged in a very different type of activity than when you're giving a presentation. When you're engaged in a meeting or a conversation, there's often much more that occupies your mind. You're listening to the tone and the content of the other people's speech. You're trying to follow their train of thought and their logic. You're thinking about how you might respond. You might be translating in your head what you want to say from your first language.
