- According to multiple studies, the professions most likely to experience burnout are so-called high-touch professions, such as medical professionals, teachers, lawyers, social workers, police officers, and retail and fast food professionals. Look at a list from any source and you will not find project managers on it, there are two main reasons for this. The first is that in the eyes of many, project managers are not professionals. We are often regarded as pen pushers, task chasers, and people whose sole purpose is to book too many meetings. The second is that very few people understand the complexity of true project management. There are well-known models of how communications increase as you add people to a team.
