What is project manager burnout and why does it matter?

- In 1974, the psychologist Freudenberger defined burnout as "The extinction of motivation or incentive, especially where one's devotion to a cause or relationship fails to produce the desired results." In 2019, the World Health Organization redefined burnout as "A syndrome resulting from chronic workplace stress that has not been successfully managed." In recent surveys, up to 95% of the workforce are considering changing jobs, and most of these people are reporting burnout as the reason why. But how do we tell if we are burned out, generally depressed, or genuinely ready to change jobs? Taylor has been a project manager with a large healthcare organization for several years. Even the advent of COVID restrictions and changed working conditions did not seem to put a pause in progress or a dent in Taylor's positivity and enthusiasm.
