- Have you ever said, "I wish there were more hours in the day," or, "I wish there was more time to get the real work done?" What is the first thing you and others do when work is piling up? We work more hours, we get up earlier, we go to bed later, we eat on the run, we cut back on exercise, because we just don't have time. If we do get up the nerve to speak to a manager or leader about our stress and work levels, they may encourage this behavior by saying something like, "You've got this. You'll get it done, you always do." Or maybe you have said that to someone else. "You got this." This is what I call digging in. Things are overwhelming and the first step we take is to make them more so. Have you ever watched hawks flying overhead? There are three hawks that fly over my neighborhood most days.
