From the course: Project Manager Burnout: Recognizing, Disrupting, and Reversing

Burnout: I've been there

- Burnout is a sense of disconnection, exhaustion, and often, futility. It is not surprising that we hear about it in healthcare, education, and counseling. What is not often talked about is how common it is for project professionals to burnout. In interviews, we hear about project managers at every level hitting the wall, having nothing left, or losing their sense of purpose. Project managers are not identified as people most likely to suffer burnout, and yet many of the attributes of a project manager's role are high risk for burnout. Hi, I'm Ruth Pearce, coach, lifelong project manager, and ambassador for the Via Institute on Character. This course explores the sources of burnout for project professionals, the signs we can look out for, and identifies steps we can take to reduce the risk that we will succumb to burnout or contribute to the burnout of others during our career. It is my pleasure to invite you to join me on this exploration of where burnout comes from and what we can do about it.
