Set up a basic Gantt chart in Excel

- I like Excel best for making my Gantt charts, and I've used it even for 20-million-pound projects. It's quick and easy, as I'll show you now. Let's do a very quick walkthrough of the construction of a Gantt chart using Excel. I'll show you how to add tasks, dates, hours, expenditure, resources, and of course the critical path, so you'll be able to create a complete Gantt chart in five to 10 minutes using only basic Excel skills. So first, I put the tasks down the left-hand side, starting with the tasks that are on the critical path. So I start with choosing my country, and I'm going to make that column a little bit wider so they can all fit in. So that's the critical path. And now I'm going to put in the floating tasks. So I've got Find Site. I'm leaving a couple of gaps, you'll see why in a minute. Then across the top, we're going to put the week numbers.
