Dealing with the "absent stakeholder's" expectations

- [Instructor] Dealing with challenging stakeholders is a common situation that project managers must address. One of the most difficult is the stakeholder who simply isn't there. They usually mean well, but due to other priorities or a belief they aren't needed, they don't participate in the project as one would hope. It's frustrating, but not impossible to manage. Here are my recommendations. Present what you believe their expectations would be. Moving forward without understanding a stakeholder's expectations is dangerous. Often, however, those expectations are predictable. Documenting your beliefs and sharing those with the absent stakeholder may trigger a response, receive a positive response, and you can move forward. Don't proceed with the project if you don't receive a response, you must take further action. What I do next is to talk to the stakeholder's trusted colleagues, team leaders, assistants, or other close colleagues can often speak on behalf of the absent stakeholder.…
