- If you're looking for best practices in project management, there are two widely recognized associations that have developed the project management global standards and certifications. The Project Management Institute, also known as PMI, and PRINCE2. The Project Management Body of Knowledge, or PMBOK, from PMI was first published in 1996. The newest version, the Seventh Edition, published in August, 2021, includes traditional project management, as well as agile practices with a stronger focus on delivering value. The PMBOK is a set of guidelines, best practices, conventions, and techniques that are considered industry standards and are applied in over 180 countries. Then there's PRINCE2, which stands for Projects in Controlled Environments. It was developed by the UK Office of Government Commerce in 1989.
