- On a global project one of my clients was working on, there were product designs that needed to be shared between multiple suppliers. The problem was that not everyone was using the same design software. Some were using Inventor, others SOLIDWORKS, and still others CATIA. All three are high-level, computer-aided design CAD software, but there was constant confusion because these platforms did not communicate well with each other. This project lacked a standard for interoperability, which is defined as the ability of computer systems or software to exchange and make use of information. In a similar way, humans need to have a standard for communicating and sharing information. A common language is human interoperability, and here are key ideas to get this done successfully. First, agree on the common language for people to communicate during the life of the project.
