- The software development lifecycle, referred to as the SDLC, is a process that processes high-quality software in the shortest amount of time. The SDLC includes detailed steps for how to effectively develop, change, and maintain a software system, and is typically broken down into six parts: The steps are linear and do go in a sequential order, but what's more important to understand is that it's a cycle that each feature should iterate through.
