- This is a real data set taken from the World Bank that includes country level estimates of the prevalence of HIV for a number of years. Along with the HIV prevalence estimates, it also includes information on the region, income group, and lending category of the countries in the year 2000. Why 2000? Because that is the year that the millennium development goals were declared by nearly all of the countries in the world, which included a goal of reducing the HIV prevalence, and a lot of money was raised to support this work. So if the goals and money raised impacted HIV prevalence, then we would expect the rate of change of the increase in the HIV prevalence to slow down after the year 2000, due to better protection against HIV infections. The dataset also includes interrupted intercept and interrupted slope dummy variables for a number of years where the theory indicates that we expect an interrupted intercept, or a slope, starting after 2000.
