- There's a reason. I'm starting to talk about microphones when I talk about add on equipment because it's one of the most overlooked pieces of equipment that you need for screencasting. Unfortunately, most people incorrectly assume because their computer or laptop has a built-in in microphone that they're all set and nothing could be further from the truth. That built-in microphone is way too far away. It's kind of like you're shouting across the room into the telephone much like when you used to call your grandparents. It doesn't sound very good and it's very hollow and it's really frustrating to listen to. That microphone is there so people can do low quality web calls to each other and it's there for convenience, but it's not good. You're going to want to step up.
