- [Narrator] As a consumer, I want privacy laws that protect my data from harm or inappropriate use. As a tech executive, whose employers depend upon customer data for growth, I'm even more invested in strong privacy laws. This might sound surprising to folks who think that companies don't care about privacy laws. For any business to succeed, they need to grow their customer base and consumer engagement. This requires building trust with customers, partners, and other stakeholders across the world. Privacy laws that are confusing and/or too theoretical are often extremely hard to implement. It could be even more harmful when different privacy laws contradict each other. Such laws can often be counterproductive because they slow down engineering innovation without making a meaningful difference in privacy protections.
