- [Instructor] As I've said earlier, data privacy and business maturity both requires sound governance. Two key components of data governance are understanding risks and mitigating those risks. Data classification helps us understand the risk, but that is not sufficient by itself, right? You need to modify the data to reflect the risk, which brings me to data inventory. Data inventory is, in the end, a tool that maps the privacy risk associated with the data to control the systems that would mitigate that risk. For example, let's assume you're implementing an encryption algorithm to protect sensitive data. That way, in theory, if a bad actor were to get a hold of a server containing user data, you could avoid them being able to access data from that server.
