NIST Privacy Framework: Protect
From the course: Privacy Fundamentals for Organizations
NIST Privacy Framework: Protect
- [Instructor] The next function is the Protect Function. The Protect Function is very similar to some of the other discussions we've had about data security. The Protect Function focuses on implementing safeguards to ensure the confidentiality and integrity of personal data. This is where privacy and cybersecurity risk overlap. This includes having data protection policies and procedures, good identity management and access controls, and leveraging data security and protective technologies. Some other key aspects within Protect are controlling who logs onto your network and who's using computers and devices on the network. It means leveraging security software to protect data and updating security software regularly. It also includes aspects around data deletion and data disposal. Like we've talked about before in this course, you cannot really separate data security from data privacy. They're very complimentary, and the Protect Function is another reminder of that.
