- [Instructor] Data inventory requires linking and understanding of the data itself that is the classification to the tools and controls to help manage and reduce the risk. For that to happen, you need to discover the data in sufficient volume and coverage. That way, your overall inventory will be more representative, and therefore more accurate, and therefore more actionable. And while I love to talk about classifying and inventorying data at the early stage as much as possible, the fact of the matter is that many companies will start this process with a lot of legacy data. That is just the fact of life. It may not be an option to simply delete all this data, so you have to operate smartly. You need a data inventory architecture that can do the following, crawl various known data stores, discover other data sets, especially the unstructured data we've talked about before. Make those data sets and corresponding metadata available for tagging. Provide extensibility to add new metadata.…
