Updating Office applications
- [Instructor] If you have ever wondered the version, or if you are running the latest version of PowerPoint, then this movie is for you. To do either, first, we need to open PowerPoint. So jumping over to a new PowerPoint presentation, on Windows, to check your version number or to update Office, either way, in Windows, we need to go to our File menu. So jumping over to File all the way down to Account, this is where you go to see anything account-related. Now to check to see if you have any updates, you should see an Update Options button right here. Clicking on that and clicking Update Now, Microsoft will then check for updates and begin downloading any updates if you have any. You can keep working in Office if you have updates to install. And then when those updates are ready to apply, it will prompt you to restart or close those applications when it is ready. And there's that message I was telling you about, "Save your work before continuing." Let's go ahead and click Continue since I have nothing to save. Now it's applying updates, closing apps. And when it is finished, it will reopen PowerPoint and show you a message that says, "Updates were installed." So let's click Close and jump back to File, Account. And there you have it. Now to check the version that we are using in PowerPoint, you can go all the way down to where it says About PowerPoint, and there, it will tell you the version number, 2311, and the build. And we are on the current channel. If we want more information about our updates that were installed, we can click on that Update Options button again, and we can choose to learn more about those updates by clicking on the option About Updates, or we can choose to click on the option View Updates, which will take us to the website, the Release notes for the Current Channel. Now, a little note about this page, it will always take you to the current channel release notes regardless of the channel you are on. In the next movie, I will talk a little bit about the insider builds of Office. So if you are on the beta channel, for example, and you click on the release notes, it will still take you to the current channel. So do make sure to check out these other options. If you are on the beta channel or the preview channel, be sure to switch and make sure you are on the correct corresponding channel if you want to go to this website. And that is installing updates if you are on a personal or family subscription on Windows. If you're on a Mac, it's a little bit different. On a Mac, checking for the version number and updates are a bit different. To check the version of PowerPoint, go to the PowerPoint menu and click on About PowerPoint. In the window that appears, there you will find the version number and the license type as well as some other useful information. As for checking for updates, that's in a completely different location. Go to the Help menu and click on Check for Updates. From there, you have the option to check on automatic updates, and PowerPoint will check and notify you of any new updates. If you have updates to install, just click on the Update button to install those updates. So yeah, PowerPoint for Mac is a bit different from Windows. I, myself, am primarily a Windows user, and the rest of this course, I will be demoing things on a Windows machine. But if you do have any questions about how something works on a Mac, just drop a question in the course Q&A panel and I or someone else can help you.
