Clipped shapefile maps

- [Instructor] There are many places where we can obtain map shapefiles that we can use in Power BI and other mapping tools. The US Census maintains the official geographical shape maps for maps like states, counties, and metropolitan areas for example. The shapefiles for this example are for the US states and US counties. There are a number of different formats we can download these files in. There are also different levels of granularity that we can use to create the actual outlines for the maps. The files with 500k on the end of them have the highest level of granularity detail. While the files with the suffix 20m have a lower levels of detail. I recommend using the lowest level of detail needed for a particular mapping project because it can take a long time to render a high resolution map and it doesn't make much of a difference in terms of the map appearance. I use the 20m shapefiles for the US states as well as US counties for our example. I'm going to create a custom shapefile…
