- [Instructor] We might have our own custom maps we want to use in a Power BI map visual. We can get these maps from a number of places, like the US Census. In order to set up a custom map, we need to download or create our own geospatial shapefiles to set up the geographical reference data. Shapefiles include geospatial data and mappings, such as outlines for political borders and bodies of water. I recommend using an online tool that tests your maps to work as you anticipate them to. Websites like Mapshaper allow us to test our shape files as consolidated maps and also edit them where we need to. Here's what the US Metro Areas map looks like. We can hover over the geographical map outlines to see what metro area each geographical shape represents. We can then download this map as a TopoJSON or GeoJSON map file to use in other applications like Power BI. You can enable the shape map visual in preview features. We'll add the…
