Creating sparklines to quickly view trends
- [Instructor] Sparklines invented by Edward Tufte are several micro line charts grouped together that enable us to see data trends quickly between categories. The trick to creating effective sparklines is to remove most, if not all, the chart labels to push attention away from the detailed analysis, and focus on the high level trends. In Power BI, we can import sparklines as a custom visual, or we can tap into the built-in sparkline capabilities within the application. Depending on your version of Power BI sparklines might be in preview feature mode. Let's add sparklines to our existing population summary matrix table that shows the most recent population in 2022. We'll first add either our population measure, or our population aggregate field from the population table. We'll then, click on the field in the values to open the menu. In the dropdown menu, let's choose Add a sparkline. This opens a new configuration window.…
