- [Presenter] Internal developer platforms are an important part of platform engineering, but there's more to it than that. A developer platform is a means to an end. The goal is to simplify the usage of many other systems. This requires deep knowledge and understanding of the complexity of the software delivery process and the tools that support it. Platform engineering teams should take a degree of ownership over all the component platforms behind the IDP. This doesn't mean that they should completely take over these systems. Operations teams still have a role to play in the day-to-day care and feeding at the infrastructure level. Operations maintains the systems and platform engineering curates the developer experience. This includes software delivery systems like version control, container orchestration, continuous integration and delivery, and testing platforms.
