- [Instructor] It's important to have a clear perspective on platform engineering before we try to make it work. So let's spend some time on how it relates to other practices. As I've mentioned previously, platform engineering is an enhancement of DevOps, not a replacement. DevOps still has plenty of important applications to modern software delivery. Its principles of shift left, small batch sizes and continuous improvement are no less relevant than they were 10 years ago. These principles are not in conflict with platform engineering. On the contrary, they're critical to the work of the platform engineering team. The IDP should be developed as a product, and we should apply DevOps principles and practices to it as we would any other.
