Understanding supported topologies will help you in this process. We all know that AD Connect is a tool that is used to copy users, groups, and other objects from on premise active directory to Azure AD. This is by far the most common AD integration method. There are several reasons for that. First, users can use single identity to access on-premise application, as well as cloud based application.
